The Creston Eagles had a fantastic day marching in the 82nd Avenue of the Roses Parade on Saturday, April 30th. This historic event is the first Parade that a Marching Band from Creston K-8 has attended to our knowledge. Thank you to the Parents and the PTA for their amazing support in this endeavor. Thank you also to the staff, parents and students who supported the Creston Eagles Band by cheering them on in rehearsal and at the Parade.
K-5 students are busy developing their singing, dancing and drumming skills to some of their favorite songs in preparation for their end of the year Stomp Assembly at 2:00pm on Wednesday, May 25th.

Finally, starting with a new group of students for our last quarter, the Integrated Arts classroom content will include a continuation of musical theory with emphasis on learning basis piano techniques. In addition, one of our classes will also focus of creating a visual photo show essay to honor eight grade student for the end of the year. This will include photo documentation, editing and creating an Imovie presentation for preservation.
Please, attend and support your Creston students! Hope to see you there!

On Thursday, January 7th, Creston Middle School students were invited to attend a Science of Music exhibit at Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI).
Students were able to witness and perform experiments with sound using tools such as giant electricity slinging Tesla Coils, flame throwing Oscilloscopes, LED reactive Pianos and a Gibson Flying V twelve times larger than a standard guitar. Not only did these tools help bring abstract core curriculum to life but it also gave our kids a chance to make some music.
This was a part of the OMSI Exhibit "Guitar: The Instrument that Rocked The World." For more information about OMSI or upcoming exhibits, please visit https://www.omsi.edu/
Welcome back and happy new year! We are really looking forward to all of the new opportunities presented to us in the new year. 3rd through 5th grade Students have just started their recorder unit! We have recorders that are regularly cleaned at Creston but students are welcome to purchase or bring one from home. We do the "Recorder Karate" method at Creston so for each song students learn they can earn a different colored belt and sign the wall of fame! Our White belt song is Hot Cross Buns. See the video below for a little extra help for your child.
Last week was the annual Creston Winter Sing-A-Long and Concert hosted by The Creston Eagles Beginning Band. Ms. Woods 5th Grade class played "Carol of the Bells" on xylophones. Next, the Beginning band played their first concert and acted as MC's for the evening. Then, each grade, K-4, took turns leading winter songs that everyone learned in music class and the Columbia Regional Music Class played their Bucket Drums. Then, the Integrated Arts Choir sang Happy by Pharrel Williams and Imagine by John Lennon. Ms. Williams class and the Creston Eagles Beginning Band led Jingle Bells. Finally, we all sang closing song "This Little Light of Mine." You can see excerpts of the assembly in the video below. Thanks to Ms. Fox for recording it!
We are all very proud of our students and so thankful that we are able to get together and make music as an entire school! Thank you to everyone who has made it possible to provide the opportunity to make music with the Creston Kids!
1st-5th grade students are invited!

Music students throughout Creston have been learning up a storm!
Every single band student passed their first playing test last week: "Your First Note" with flying colors. Ms. Pearl's class began their Bucket Drumming Unit today. They will be learning about reading and composing rhythms while creating together. Meanwhile, Kindergarten classes are already singing wonderfully! This is one of my favorite times of year. The leaves are beginning to turn beautiful colors and the air is crisp in the morning while the students are falling in to their places. I have been overwhelmed by the passion and commitment that all of our Creston students have shown. The new spaces have been incredibly valuable and have offered new opportunities for our children. Thank you to the PTA for sharing their valuable community room for the year!
That's all for now. Have a great day and keep music in your life!
